The TIME LAPSE is not really a camera movement in and of itself, but is an editing technique. I like to include it because of its inherent sense of movement. The TIME LAPSE indicates the passage of time quickly or an accelerated view of what is happening.
In the first clip from the TV series BREAKING BAD the TIME LAPSE is used in conjunction with a dolly, pulling back to reveal more, then a traditional transitional TIME LAPSE, then a TIME LAPSE locked down illustrating Jesse’s boredom.
In the clip from Stanley Kubrick’s A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, the TIME LAPSE of Alex’s sexual encounter is almost comical at an accelerated pace, with The William Tell Overture playing at break neck speed. NOTE: This scene may not be suitable for younger viewers.
